Vietnam – a new bright spot on the global fruit map
Vietnam’s fruit industry is entering a period of strong growth, especially in the Mekong Delta, Central Highlands and Northwest regions – areas that are both rich in potential and sensitive to climate change. Improving competitiveness and sustainable development is considered a key solution to increase the resilience of farmers, communities and the local economy.
Development potential and international cooperation opportunities
The year 2025 opens up opportunities to take advantage of market growth to achieve the goal of transforming agriculture. For farmers, this means increasing net income, diversifying revenue sources, reducing market and production risks, and developing sustainable farming systems that are adaptable and resilient to climate change. Value addition also comes from the creation of non-agricultural jobs, particularly in the processing, logistics and distribution sectors.
However, the Vietnamese fruit industry still faces many challenges. At the micro level, difficulties include limitations in market information, input supply, meeting certification standards as well as agricultural safety techniques. At the macro level, the production structure is fragmented, logistics infrastructure is not synchronized, and the financial and trade ecosystem lacks comprehensive support.
